At the finishing stage on certain pieces, we adhere to the old master’s technique of French polishing usually with a solution of shellac and spirit.  Several coats of these solutions are applied to fill in the natural pit holes of wood, using muslin pads. The result is a smooth silky surface, which is impossible to attain through the use of spray-finishing, in which pit-holes are distinctly visible. The use of this technique is diminishing due to scarcity of professionals.
