George II Chair

George II Chair

3,200.00

A pair of George II chairs characteristic of the transitional periods between the early Georgian solid, heavily carved and ornamental style and the later George III, light, linear and refined  style. The style of these chairs sowed the seeds of chair designs for the second half of the 18th century.  The back is fairly flat with a moulded C-scroll carved crest, above a pierced central splat and trapezoidal seat frame enclosing a slip seat cushion.

The cabriole legs end in ball and claw feet, which are derived from the ancient Chinese image of a dragon holding a pearl and are the hallmark of Early Georgian Furniture.  Handmade and hand-finished in solid rosewood
