An extravagant commode inspired from early George I, the gently undulating front comprises four drawers and two cabinets, with four cabinet doors, encompassed by delicate beading. The sides are also gently molded and adorned with luxurious gilded acanthus leaf carved detail. The top is composed of a single rectangular piece of solid wood and is somewhat projecting at the sides and finished at the edges with an elegant cyma molding. The piece stands upon four squat bandy legs terminating in bracketed feet, featuring a carved foliate motif.
The gilded appearance of the legs and the carving detail on the sides, lend this piece an air of understated opulence. The piece is a medley of light carving and symmetrical curves. The unique almost similarly grained panels, in fascinating multi-colored hues, make this piece one of its kind. Handmade and hand finished in solid rosewood.
